  00DAD Our CA for years has held everyone in their seats until the end of the baptism, only then were the crowd released for lunch. We are not allowed to eat in our seats we have to go to a dining room. I too have been a baptiser but never gave the talk. Maybe we were out of step with everyone else.

  The DA was different because the baptism was always off site.

  I attended the CA today. The usual gruesome fodder was dispensed until the baptism

  My experience of the event for many years has been a carefully controlled sort of sacred ceremony during which relatives and friends discreetly filmed their love ones being lost to this delusion. The only changes have been can we clap each candidate or do we wait until the end. Recently new light said yes we can clap each candidate in stead of having an accumulated clap at the end

  Today though, an announcement “The writing committee have announced that we now no longer required to sit during the baptism” We were dismissed to go for lunch, chat amongst ourselves or do as we liked.

  The baptism was going on at the front of the hall, children were running about, some were eating lunch; some were in an uncontrolled scrum in front of the pool.

  Very strange, it felt like break dancing during the memorial.

  This was new to us, are we late adopters?

  The dignified thread of friendly political debate and banter about British politics

  inspired by minimus's latest thread about controversial topics, i thought it would be interesting if we brits could have a nice friendly non-confrontational conversation about politics without getting all hot under the collar, thus teaching our more boisterous american counterparts a lesson in how to be dignified in these matters!.

  i'll start the ball rolling.... my political persuasions are not very well formed yet, since i'm still only fairly recent in exiting the witnesses and giving serious attention to these sorts of things.. i think if i had been involved as a voter in the last election i would have voted conservative, but i'm dreading the next election because i suspect my options may be more limited.. there are many things i like and admire about david cameron, but also things about him that irritate me.

  i like the way he sticks to his guns and doesn't give in easily on issues he cares about, but this can also make him unresponsive to the national mood at times, making him appear somewhat out of touch with reality.

  On a more serious note, the "Mitchellgate" afair demonstrates that the police, particularly the Met have a long way to go before we can say they have cleaned up their act.

  Did they callously set up Mitchell and stitch him up? Was it part of a power struggle giving them chips to minimise the cuts? I don't know but I would not be in the least surprised. I have personally seen police lie to strengthen a case so I am under no illusion as to their overall culpabillity. It will be interesting to see how it develops. Will yet another Met commissioner bite the dust?
